Afterpay offers interest free payment plans for your online purchases at Crema Joe. You buy what you want today, receive your order just as normal and pay it off in four equal, interest free fortnightly instalments.

To use Afterpay, you must:

• Use an Australian credit or debit card to make the purchase

• Have an Australian residential address

WHAT WILL AFTERPAY COST ME?

You will not pay anything extra when you choose to use Afterpay as your payment option. You will pay your instalments directly to Afterpay in accordance with the payment schedule Afterpay will send to you via email. If a payment is due but not received by Afterpay in accordance with their payment schedule, late payment fees will apply (head to Afterpay for more details). In addition, because an Afterpay account is linked to your credit or debit card, standard card fees and charges may be applicable. You should refer to your card issuer's terms and conditions for full details of these.

HOW DO I USE AFTERPAY?

Simply choose Afterpay as your payment method at checkout. For customers using Afterpay for the first time, you will need to provide payment details as usual to complete your purchase. However, once your first Afterpay order is approved by Afterpay and you activate your account, your Afterpay account will be created and you will be able to make more purchases using Afterpay by simply entering your Afterpay log in details upon checkout. Your order will processed and dispatched as per any other order paid for in full at the time of order.

ORDER CANCELLATIONS, RETURNS AND EXCHANGES

Crema Joe is unable to access your order once it has been placed. Once your order has been received, you can post items back to Crema Joe as per our standard returns / exchanges policy. For returns on items paid for using Afterpay, our standard returns / exchanges policy applies. When we receive your goods, Crema Joe will advise Afterpay of the return and refund. The returned items will create an adjusted Afterpay payment schedule (to remaining payments). Afterpay will communicate these payment changes to you via email. For exchanges on items paid for using Afterpay, our standard returns / exchanges policy applies.

How do I use a promo code?
Got a discount code? Lucky you! During checkout, on the right-hand side of the screen you'll see a box that says "Gift card or discount code" - enter your code there, and then press "Apply". 

How many codes can be used in one order?

Only one code can be used at a time. If you have more the one promo code, we suggest checking which code will give you the bigger discount!

All of our discount codes have rules attached (like being a new customer, subscribing to our newsletter, spending over a certain amount etc). These terms should be right around the place you got the code, whether it's on the website, or from an email or special link.

Please check you’ve entered the code in the right case (upper or lower), as well as the expiry date of the promotion.

Crema Joe's reusable capsule range is growing more and more popular, and sometimes we run out of stock of particular items. 

Occasionally we run pre-orders for products on backorder. When you click on an out-of-stock product, you will generally be given the option to pre-order this item. If you choose do to this, your pre-ordered item will be sent out as soon as we receive the stock. You will receive an email notifying you when your item has been shipped.

If you order a pre-order item with in-stock items, your complete order will be sent once all items are in stock.

If you need to receive items separately, please place a separate order. Please order carefully, as we are unable to split orders once they have been placed. However, if you've already placed your order and are desperate for the in-stock item to come first, please reach out to our team to discuss paying additional shipping to split your order.

Finalised orders will receive a confirmed email.

Hi there, what a bummer! At Crema Joe, our range of reusable capsules have been so popular that occasionally we cannot keep up with demand and a line of product is out of stock. If you've got some time, and the product isn't available for pre-order, we recommend waiting it out as most products come back within a couple of weeks.

What should I do if I believe my order is missing?
Dependant on your location, orders may take up to 10 business days for Parcel Post (Australian addresses). You can track your order by clicking on the 'View Your Order' link in your original dispatch email, and selecting the tracking number provided. If your order was sent via Aus Post, for parcel enquiries you can contact Australia Post directly on 137 678. If you have not received your order after 2 weeks, please let us know, and we can investigate it for you!

If you do need to get in touch, it's super helpful to include the following information so we can get the ball rolling on hunting down your parcel right away! Please ensure you provide the following: 

• your order number

• your full shipping address

If your item is waiting for you at your post office, you'll have 10 business days to collect it before the item is returned to the sender.

- Anyone from the address is able to collect the item (with proof of address and suitable ID) or

- By completing the 'collection authorisation' section on your notification card (along with suitable ID), or

- Completing a letter of authority form for them to print and present at the Post Office (along with suitable ID)

If you'd prefer to have it sent to another Post Office:

- Complete this form to transfer your item to a more convenient Post Office location - flat rate $6.50

Your orders, on your terms: You can use your online account to take care of pretty much everything related to your subscription! Gotta love technology these days huh?

Change of schedule? Drinking more coffee than usual? Or just need to change your delivery address? You can easily change your frequency or skip an order.

To get started, if you haven't already created an account, do so via our create account page. Or, simply log in to your existing account.

Select "Manage Subscription". From there you can change, swap, add and remove products from your subscription. To skip orders, select “Manage Orders”.

We think coffee emergencies are the worst kind, so we’ve set up subscriptions so you’ll never have to worry about your next caffeine fix!

To set-up your recurring order, simply:

1. Select the "Subscribe & Save" option.

2. Choose your frequency, then hit add to cart.

Once a recurring order is placed, you’ll be notified via a confirmation email. You’ll also receive an email the day before any future recurring orders to keep you up to date with your subscription.

Recurring orders are billed automatically to your nominated credit card at the intervals you selected at set-up (weekly, fortnightly, monthly etc). 

Recurring orders are processed and shipped on dispatch days (Monday, Wednesday and Friday for orders submitted before 9am).

How do I change my bank card details?

You can change or update your payment details by logging in to your account and selecting the 'Manage Subscription' link. 

What happens if my payment fails?

The subscription payment will be unsuccessful if your card is declined during the transaction process. If your payment fails, your order will not be processed. You will receive an email notification informing you that you have a failed transaction, and asking you to update your payment information. Upon receiving this email, you need to log in to the "Manage Subscription" area to update your payment information. Once this has been completed, your order will attempt to process again within 24 hours.

Our subscriptions are totally flexible. We deliver our products as often as your household needs, whether that's once a fortnight or once every few months. There's no commitment, and you can pause or cancel at any time.

If you decide that our subscription model isn't working for you, you can cancel via your online account, or by getting in touch with our team.

We advise customers to allow one week’s notice (up to 7 days) from the date of next delivery to cancel, suspend or place an order on hold. For customers with recurring orders who provide less than 7 days notice to cancel their order, you may still receive your regular delivery and be billed accordingly.

Please note: We are not responsible for any costs incurred due to accidentally-placed subscription orders. If you placed a recurring order by mistake, you can simply head to your customer account to cancel your subscription to ensure you don't receive any unintended recurring orders in the future. 

We do everything we can to ensure your personal details are safe and secure.

All of our Subscription transactions are processed by a company called Stripe through their secure online payments portal. They are one of the leading global platforms for online payments processing, and security is a top priority. Our team don't even have access to the credit card details of our customers - they are retained and secured only by Stripe. You can find more about their security measures here.  

RETAIL RETURNS

Sometimes things don’t quite work out. We get it, and in the unfortunate circumstance that you need to return your unused products, our customer service reps (who are fully trained, happiness ninjas) will try to make the process as quick and easy as possible!

Can I return unused products? 

We can refund or exchange most unused items (in original condition), within 14 days of receipt of goods. To be eligible for a return, items must be:

• unused

• accompanied by the official invoice / packing slip

• contain the original instruction brochure inside (if applicable)

• in the original, undamaged packaging

• in the same condition that it was received in

Please contact our customer service team or at info @ cremajoe.com.au to arrange a RMA Number for your return. Partial refunds or exchanges may be granted in the following situations: Any item not in its original condition (damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error), any item that is returned more than 14 days after delivery.

Goods exempt from being returned: Perishable goods (such as coffee), gift cards, health and personal care items.
Sale items are also non-refundable - in this case, a credit note will be offered. This excludes faulty items.

For products purchased via our official stockists, please contact the stockist directly for their return/exchange policy regarding your purchase. 

I've changed my mind about the product I've been using. Can I return it?

Coffee capsules are food storage items - we can only accept returns of unused items, or by reason of manufacturing fault.

You've made a positive choice for the future of our planet, and it's important to us that you continue to brew more sustainably. Whilst getting to know your new eco-friendly products (and moving away from the uber-convenience of disposable) we are here to help! For tips and information on perfecting your brew with reusables, please see the Troubleshooting section of our Help Centre.

I think my product is faulty, what should I do? 

We take extreme care in ensuring our goods are produced at the highest quality. However, if you believe your product to be faulty, please contact us and include the following details:

• photos showing the issue

• a video of the issue if applicable

• order number

Hold onto your product, as we provide replacements for faulty components, or alternatively we may arrange for you to return the product for testing. We will honour replacements on faulty product for up to 30 days post purchase date. If a product testing assessment deems the product faulty, you will be reimbursed for the return postage expense and offered replacement components or a complete product replacement if applicable. If the issue is found to be due to product usage, we will return the product to you - you will be liable to cover any related inspection costs and the additional incurred postage expenses.

Refunds cannot be issued for capsules used with non-compatible machines or "multi-capsule" machines. The customer is responsible for checking their machine model and product compatibility before making a purchase.

How do I ship my approved return to you? 

If you're required to send us your return, please include your:
• Your RMA Number (please contact us to arrange this at info @ cremajoe.com.au)
• A print-off of your Crema Joe purchase confirmation email (or your contact details and order number)

Please note: Any returns sent back to us without the enclosed paperwork will not be accepted. Our Quality Assurance Team will need to wait to receive and match your RMA to your order if this detail is not included with your parcel. Please ensure you enclose the above items so that we can identify you and provide a resolution as quickly as possible.

All returns instructions are provided in your RMA confirmation email.

The customer is responsible for 100% of the return / change of mind / exchange shipping costs. We suggest using a tracked service, as we cannot be responsible for the parcel if it goes missing. Shipping costs are non-refundable. For all orders that received free shipping, the purchase price of the order will be refunded less a flat $10 restocking fee. This fee covers admin and processing costs for returns.

I'd like to exchange a gift I received, how do I do that?

We'd be happy to help! If someone purchased you a gift from our store, and shipped it directly to you, we will provide a store credit to value of the return. Once the returned item is received, your store credit details will be supplied - no hassle!

How long does the refund process take?

Great question!

As soon as the product is received at our warehouse, it is inspected by our Quality Assurance team to confirm that it fits within our Returns Policy. This quality check may take up to 2 weeks, though generally less.

Then, approved refunds / partial-refunds will be actioned and processed via the original method of payment, store credit code, or (if applicable) the exchange process will be finalised, usually within 3-4 business days.

Depending on where you live, transit times for exchanged product (if applicable) may vary.

Typically when we process a refund, it can take 5-10 business days to be issued to your account dependant on your financial institution. You will usually see the credit on your statement within 10 business days of the refund being issued. If you're having trouble locating the credits portion on your statement to confirm if the credit is there, or it has taken longer than 10 business days to post to your account, we recommend getting in touch with your bank.

If this has been done and the refund is yet to be received, please email us and we'll do our best to help!

Can I get a refund on a sale item or demo stock that I purchased?

If you would like to return a sale item, our standard Returns Policy applies.

Ex-demo stock may have slight markings, or slightly damaged packaging. All sales of ex-demo stock are final, so please ask us if you have any questions before purchase.

Do you offer refunds or exchanges for international orders?

We offer refunds only for international order faulty items (we do not offer exchanges in this case). Our standard assessment process applies in order to process a refund. 

Can I return gift, bonus or bundled items?

Where product is purchased with a gift or bonus offer, the gift or bonus must also be returned (unless otherwise stated). If you are unable to return the gift or bonus, or it is not in a saleable condition, the value of any available refund will be reduced by the value of the gift or bonus (in full or in part).

In the instance of bundle offers, all items within the bundle must also be returned or the value of the unreturned items will be deducted from any available refund. If a bundle contains an item exempt from being returned (such as coffee), the full value of the exempt item will be deducted from any available refund.

CONSUMER GUARANTEES

As a consumer, you are entitled to certain guarantees in respect of goods and services purchased from Crema Joe. These guarantees are called Consumer Guarantees. Retailers don’t have to give you a refund or exchange if you simply change your mind. The ACL does not guarantee a remedy (i.e. a refund or replacement) if you no longer want or need a product or service you bought. This is the case even if your circumstances have changed, you have no use for what you purchased, you made a mistake or you found you can buy the product cheaper elsewhere. Our change of mind Returns Policy applies in addition to, and does not affect, your rights under the Consumer Guarantees which apply under the Australian Consumer Law.

Where you believe an item is faulty, it may be necessary for us to send your goods to the manufacturer for it to be assessed within a reasonable period of time. If the goods have a major defect, you may seek a refund, exchange or repair or you may keep the item and seek compensation for any drop in value. If a failure is minor, we will repair the item (or, at our discretion, we may replace the item) within a reasonable time. You will be responsible for returning the product. You are entitled to recover reasonable postage costs if the product is confirmed to have a defect. In the case of faulty product, you do not have to return products in the original packaging.

Where an item is misused, neglected or abnormal used, Crema Joe will not provide a refund, exchange or repair. If the product is found not to have a problem, you may be required to pay for transport or inspection costs (an estimate of these costs can be provided).

Results received from the calculator are designed for comparative purposes only, and accuracy is not guaranteed. Crema Joe does not guarantee the accuracy of any information available on this site, and is not responsible for any errors, omissions, or misrepresentations.

Some Crema Joe offerings consist of a subscription that automatically renews. These will continue until you cancel. Future recurring charges will be applied to the payment method you provide either at checkout, or by updating your billing preferences in the account section of our website. These charges are in an amount detailed at the time of checkout, and reiterated in your email receipt. Unless you specifically choose otherwise, the term of these services is continuous until cancelled.

Your subscriptions can be cancelled at any time via email (info @ cremajoe.com.au) or by logging in to your account. We require one week’s notice from the date of next delivery to cancel, suspend or place an order on hold. Please allow up to 7 days for the cancellation process to be completed. For customers with recurring orders who provide less than 7 days notice to cancel their order, you may still receive your regular delivery and be billed accordingly.

Just when you think you've found the perfect product and have gotten a great deal the sale gods decide to rain their omnipotent price adjusting powers down upon the item that you just purchased at full price - isn't that always the way?!

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer price adjustments on any items purchased from Crema Joe. Once an item has been purchased, no price adjustment will be offered should the item be marked-down, or should a customer forget to apply a discount code to their cart. The customer is responsible for entering their promo code

You should be able to find the details of your machine model in the following places: 

- The manual that came with your machine
- The product packaging that came with your machine
- Your receipt of purchase

If you don't have any of the items above, not to worry, generally you'll be able to find a sticker on your machine (usually under the base or at the back) with your model details - you'll then be able to search online or in our handy chart below to confirm which model of machine you own. 

We've also compiled a list of the most popular capsule machines below. However if after doing a search and checking the below list you're still unsure which machine you own, you can simply send us an image of the sticker, or the model code and we'll confirm what your machine is for you.

Moving from the uber-convenience of disposable products and choosing to make an environmental commitment can be a period of adjustment.

Coffee capsules are generally weaker in flavour than an espresso from your local coffee shop - this is simply due to the smaller capacity, literally resulting in less coffee. A cafe espresso is brewed using around 11 grams, whilst capsules can range from 5 to 5.8 grams. And unfortunately, while refillable capsules are one of the most environmentally sustainable and affordable coffee pod options on the market, their capacity can be even smaller, as the products are specially designed to be shorter to ensure no damage occurs to the appliance they are used in. 

When it comes to filling your own coffee pods, extraction results can vary dependant on which coffee you use, and how you use it. We've compiled our top tips below to help you perfect your brew method.  

Start with the machine itself: Water pressure / pump malfunction, mould build up, frequently full drip tray? It's well and truly time for a spring clean. Make sure your coffee capsule machine has been recently cleaned, descaled and is in optimum working condition. “Descaling” is the act of stripping calcium and lime deposits from your machine’s surfaces, assisting the pump to create a pressure build-up that produces a lovely crema to top your brew. If you want to ensure your coffee machine is producing the best flavour and an optimal brew pressure, it should be cleaned once a week and descaled once every three months. Keeping the internal mechanics of your coffee machine in good condition by regularly cleaning it not only extends the life of the appliance, but also ensures the quality of the coffee you brew. 

Tip: Don't - Use vinegar! Vinegar doesn't remove coffee oils the way a professionally formulated coffee machine cleaner does. Do - Use a cleaning solution that will remove oils, stains and break down grime.

Invest in some real, fresh coffee: Pre-filled coffee capsules can often contain added flavour enhancers, (think dehydrated powders or concentrates) to give the impression of a "stronger" coffee. There is still some public misconception around flavour intensity and caffeine content - a stronger flavoured pod coffee does not always equate to higher caffeine content.

Nespresso state that they use 95% Arabicas and 5% Robustas in their Grands Crus capsules. Some Italian blends also often contain some Robusta beans – heresy for those brought up to think only arabica is fit for drinking! But a touch of Robusta in a blend gives it that characteristic body. To replicate this flavour intensity, you might like to try a similar blend. We recommend a strong dark roast, or Italian-style roast to achieve a stronger tasting brew, as stronger coffee tends to have a thicker and darker crema.

It's also important to note that during the extraction of coffee, different compounds extract at different rates. Sharper, acidic, fruity flavours tend to come out first, followed by the deep, heavier ones, and lastly the woody, bitter notes. A well extracted cuppa has a balance of these! And remember - fresh is best. Head to your local roaster or cafe to chat about their available blends.

Whereas a coarser grind tends to produce gentler flavours and a lighter colour crema. For the majority of our reusable pods, we recommend asking your local cafe or roaster to grind the beans to medium-fine for optimal results.

If you grind at home, using a burr grinder will help you achieve a better brew (blade grinders can create too much dust). Ensure your capsule is tamped firmly, and filled to the top. Head to our article on grind size for a more detailed look at how this effects your brew results.

Tip: A grind that is too fine can be a common cause of a slow extraction. We suggest experimenting with pressure - pack the coffee more loosely with minimal tamp, or simply fill and apply your lid. At the other end of the scale, if your grind size is too coarse you may experience watery coffee, we suggest applying more pressure when tamping.

Pick your pod (Nespresso users): Not all pods are equal! Ensure you are using the right capsule for your needs. Want to go eco but retain a very high brew quality? Bluecup capsules are for you. If sustainability is your number one priority, we suggest WayCap, however for an intense coffee we generally suggest 2 pods per brew with the WayCap system. And for something in between, our SealPod capsules are the perfect all-rounder.

Use the right lid/filter: SealPod and WayCap users might improve their brew by experimenting with their capsule lid. When using SealPod, the Espresso Lid is best for producing a richer coffee and beautiful silky crema. And WayCap users can simply experiment with the interchangeable Steel Filters (each one suited to a particular grind size) - for a very fine grind use a filter with more slots, and for a coarse grind a filter with minimal slots is best.

Tip: If using WayCap, make sure to use only one filter at a time.

Pre-extract: 

After inserting a capsule into the brewing chamber, press the short shot button and let the machine run until a drop or two of coffee begins to drip out. Quickly press the shot button again to stop the flow. Wait a few seconds and restart the extraction by pressing the button again (allowing the shot to run to completion.) This method helps to create a more flavoursome, overall creamier extraction.

Consider your milk to coffee ratio: Did you know baristas increase a shot size based on the amount of milk? You may want to consider the extraction size you are using, or brew a double shot. If you only use a single shot in a large cup, once you fill it with milk, you're going to lose the lovely characteristics of the coffee (flavours and aromas!) as the milk overshadows it.

To achieve a lovely, intense coffee with pods, one foolproof method is to brew double ristretto style: Use two capsules and brew 2 x short shots (approx 25mL per shot). A ristretto will also extract less acidity, so you'll end up with a lovely sweet, rich cup of coffee too. A high intensity coffee roast supports this kind of extraction perfectly.

Note: Brewing a long coffee? To get the absolute best extraction from reusable pods, we strongly recommend using the standard espresso shot (using the short shot button) on your coffee machine. This provides the perfect amount of water to extract the best elements of the coffee (oils, aroma and flavour - yum)!

This normally occurs in the last third of the pull and is a signal to end the pour. Lungo - use 2 pods each on a 40mL extraction setting
Long black - use the short shot button, and top with boiling water (by running your coffee machine without a pod in it)
The other bonus of brewing this way? You will actually extract less acidity from the coffee, resulting in a less bitter tasting cuppa.

When grinding at home, you'll achieve the best results using a burr grinder, as blade grinders may create too much dust. If you require a fine grind for espresso or use with coffee pods, it's even more critical that your grinds are uniform/consistent. If you're having trouble getting your coffee right, buying pre-ground may be a better option than using a blade grinder.

How to make a strong coffee with reusable capsules

Reusable capsules are slightly shorter than a single-use capsules, as to avoid damaging the blade plate. All of our capsules are designed to fit perfectly, and will not harm the machine when used correctly.

Our capsules with a reusable lid (WayCap) are held in place by the machine rather than being pierced.
We also have (Bluecup & Sealpod) that utilise a pierce-able lid which is pierced like a regular disposable pod. These lids are either recyclable or compostable

Since launching in 2014, we've tested, trialled and experimented with a plethora of reusable capsule material options and combinations! As part of our research, the criteria included that the product must:

• Be as sustainable as possible (either closing-the-loop or fully recyclable)
• Be production compliant and
• Meet all food safety standards and regulations

During our explorations and research, we discovered that the simple act of piercing the capsule lid creates a pressure build-up, which results in a richer brew and crema. Whilst we do stock some capsules with stainless steel reusable lids, we have opted to use fully recyclable Aluminium lids for brewing coffee with some of our product lines. When our customers switch to reusable - we hope they'll keep reusing for the lifetime of their pod machine! By refilling the steel capsule, and composting the grounds, our customers are drastically reducing their kitchen waste, whilst still enjoying a lovely espresso.

Aluminium lid disposal: All of our aluminium lids are recyclable. If your local recycling facilities are unable to sort items of this size, simply collect them in an aluminium can, squeeze it shut when full, and place in your home recycling bin. If you ever use larger sheets of aluminium, alternatively these can be scrunched up into a ball, which a larger pierce of foil around the outside to contain them. The general rule of thumb is about the size of a tennis ball so that the machines can pick them up.

Better beans, stored correctly, simply make better-tasting coffee!

Pre-ground vs whole beans: The beans themselves are the best vessel for protecting the quality of the coffee. Once your coffee beans around ground, they oxidise very rapidly. Grinding right before you brew is best if possible. 

How long it lasts: This depends on how your coffee is packaged. A one-way valve foil bag with pinholes (to let gas out but no air in) will allow the coffee a good few weeks before it loses its liveliness and begins to taste flat. If your coffee came in one of those, leave it in there! Do make sure to store in your cupboard, away from light, and at room temperature.

To freeze or not to free: Short answer? Don't freeze, or store it in the fridge. The cell structure of coffee is soft and porous, and likes to absorb aromatics. That’s code for: If you have garlic or onions in your freezer, your coffee beans might take on some of that flavour. Storing in the fridge causes coffee to condensate and pushes oils to the surface, ageing the coffee faster. If you must store your coffee in the freezer, ensure the bag is sealed and unopened. Allow the beans to thaw to room temperature before consuming. 

Stale coffee: Waste not, want not. Don't throw out your old coffee - you can use stale beans for a special type of brew: cold brew! 

Conclusion: Buy small amounts of fresh-roasted coffee in airtight containers, then store them at room temperature. And drink as much as you can as quickly as you can - coffee waits for no one.

During the process of moving to reusable coffee pods, you may find you're experiencing a little more water in your drip-tray in comparison to using disposable capsules. It's important to note that real coffee, freshly ground, generally contains a higher moisture and/or oil content than coffees such as instant and pre-filled pods, which tend to sit on supermarket shelves for months on end. Switching to a higher quality coffee can make the pump in your pod machine work a little harder, and whilst a small amount of excess water hopefully shouldn't cause a problem, the tips below should assist in reducing the water in your drip tray.

Grind method: If you grind at home, using a burr grinder will help you achieve a better brew (blade grinders can create too much dust). This dust, along with  grind inconsistencies can create a higher density within the capsule, essentially contributing to blocking the capsule, resulting in excess water leaking into the drip tray.

Grind size / tamp: A grind that is too fine can also result in excess water leaking into the drip tray. We suggest experimenting with pressure - pack the coffee more loosely with minimal tamp, or simply fill and apply the lid.

Pump function: We also suggest making sure your coffee capsule machine has been recently cleaned, descaled and is in optimum working condition. “Descaling” is the act of stripping calcium and lime deposits from your machine’s surfaces, assisting the pump to create a pressure build-up that produces a lovely crema to top your brew. The other bonus of brewing this way? You will actually extract less acidity from the coffee, resulting in a less bitter tasting cuppa. 

Coffee type: Brew intensity is also affected by the type of bean and roast method. Many pre-packaged capsules do have flavours added. These basically replicate intensity, however the caffeine content doesn't differ. If you're determined to get a super "strong" tasting coffee, you may consider trying a Robusta blend. Robusta is considered a lower grade bean, however Nespresso use this for their higher "intensity" capsules. Our capsules are made from high quality stainless steel - these can expand a little during use. Whilst this won't cause damage to your machine, they may require a little nudge to drop from the brewing chamber into the drip tray.

As a general rule, a little jiggle with your index finger should usually help to release the capsule. If required, you can also use the WayCap removal method as per attached video. Note: Please attempt this carefully - blunt implements preferred!

To reduce the frequency of this occurring, we suggest checking that you are using a capsule compatible with your model of machine, and that all gaskets, o-rings etc (dependant on the product) are correct positioned before use.

Did you know that baristas increase shot size based on the amount of milk to get the right harmony? It's important to consider what kind of coffee you really enjoy, and for when you want to drink it. For example if you love a strong coffee in the morning, add less milk - this will mean you're getting all of those great characteristics of the coffee itself and the milk isn't overshadowing it. On most machines, the "small cup" button is on the left hand side. If you're using a larger cup, consider the extraction size you are using, or try a double shot.

Black coffee

Espresso - 1 x pod (25mL coffee)

Double Ristretto - 2 x pods (50mL coffee)

Lungo - 2 x pods (80mL coffee), or
Long Black - 1 x pods (25mL coffee) topped up with boiling water

Milk coffee

The milk-to-coffee ratio is a crucial part of your brewing recipe. When making milk based cafe-style recipes, always pour the espresso first as your base - you want that lovely, thick syrupy coffee to interact properly with the milk, blending everything so it becomes quite creamy. To get the best out of your coffee and milk for a barista quality coffee, we suggest the following:

Piccolo Latte - 1 x pod (25mL coffee) + 120mL milk
Small milk coffee - 2 x pods (50mL coffee) + 210mL milk
Medium milk coffee - 3 x pods (75mL coffee) + 280mL milk
Large milk coffee - 3 x pods (75mL coffee) + 400mL milk

Notes on extraction size:

• The extractability point of coffee is between 18-28%. Less than 1/3 of a coffee bean can be extracted. If your extraction is too long, you'll notice smoky and charcoal-y aspects - this is a sign that the coffee has been burnt.

• When using quite a short extraction with stronger coffees (stopping extraction early for a Ristretto, for example), your coffee will produce lovely sweet, rich flavours and aromas - a high intensity roast supports this kind of extraction perfectly.

• If using a milder coffee, go all the way to 40mL to get the full taste of the blend in your cup.

• Only extract a maximum of 40mL per pod. 

• When extending a shot to 40mL, the balance of flavour and intensity will differ - we suggest experimenting to find what suits your tastes best.

Now that you're using real, fresh specialty coffee, you may notice that your brew extracts a little slower than single-use capsules did. With reusable pods, you might expect the brewing time to be around 14-17 seconds. This slower extraction allows for a lovely aroma, maximum flavour and a rich crema on top of your coffee.

If you would like to speed up your extraction, we suggest the following:

Grind size / tamp: A grind that is too fine can be a common cause of a slow extraction. We suggest experimenting with pressure - Pack the coffee more loosely with minimal tamp, or simply fill and apply the lid.

Machine function: We also suggest making sure your coffee capsule machine has been recently cleaned, descaled and is in optimum working condition. “Descaling” is the act of stripping calcium and lime deposits from your machine’s surfaces, assisting the pump to create a pressure build-up that produces a lovely crema to top your brew. If you want to ensure your coffee machine is producing the best flavour and an optimal brew pressure, it should be cleaned once a week and descaled once every three months. Cleaning your coffee machine not only extends it's life, but also ensures the quality of the coffee you brew. Tip: Don't - Use vinegar! Vinegar doesn't remove coffee oils the way a professionally formulated coffee machine cleaner does. Do - Use a cleaning solution that will remove oils, stains and break down grime.

We are very particular about which reusable capsules we stock, and back our products. Brand ethics, supply chain and usability are all taken into consideration when developing and/or considering our product lines.

It's true, eco-friendly capsules aren't pre-filled capsules - they're reusable! The materials they are made from are quite different from a single-use pod, so brew results can differ from that of a disposable capsule.

It's important to remember coffee beans are an agricultural product - naturally, they differ! The roasting process also has a big impact on the final product. We always recommend grabbing a bag of our delicious Bespoke Blend (crafted specifically for use with reusable pods) to get you going - you can also take this along to your local roaster as a great grind reference point! We also encourage you to try a new blend every time you shop for a new bag of coffee as you build an understanding for which flavours and aromas suit your palate.

Essentially, the extraction of your brew is dependant on which coffee you use, and how you use it. If you require your coffee capsules to perform exactly the same way as a throwaway capsule, sustainable pods may not be for you. Recommended usage:
- Regular coffee drinkers (30+ cups a month) - use one capsule per week

- Light coffee drinkers (0- 29 cups a month) - use once capsule every 2 weeks

- Special beverages (hot chocolate, tea or milk capsules) - minimum once a week.
Note: When using the CaffeNu cleaning capsules for the first time, we recommend using 2 capsules (right after each other) for a thorough clean.

Method:
1. Ensure the water tank is filled up to its maximum level, and the capsule tray is empty and clean. Place a large jug under the spout and insert the cleaning capsule as you would a coffee capsule.
2. Press the "small cup" button, and wait a minute while cleaner breaks down all the residue inside the machine.

3. Press the "large cup" button and run until the water runs clear.

4. Open the lever on your machine to eject capsule (caution - the capsule will be hot) and discard the solution in the jug.

5. To rinse the machine, close the lever and press the "large cup" button, and then discard the solution in jug.

Note: The ejected cleaning capsule will be full of hot water. Empty the capsule container and rinse and clean.

If planning on using our reusable capsules with a Wacaco machine, we suggest talking to a Wacaco technician first to confirm if they recommend modifying your machine (the blade inside can be removed for compatibility purposes).

Recommended usage:
Caffenu® Eco Descaler contains 200mL - enough for 2 doses. Use one dose every 3-6 months to ensure your machine is in optimal working condition.

Note: The recommended usage may increase dependant on the water hardness in your area.

Method:
1. Empty 100mL (single dose) into the water tank of your machine, along with 500mL of water to create the descaling solution.
2. Place a large container under the brew spout and run approximately 200mL of the solution through the brew cycle into the container.

3. Run approximately 200mL of the solution through the steamer (if fitted) into the container.

4. Repeat directions 2. and 3. until the solution is used up, allowing the machine to sit for 5 minutes in between each run.

5. Empty and rinse water tank.

6. Rinse the machine by running a full tank of clean water through the machine (steps 2. and 3. with water only).

7. Finally, wipe the surrounding surfaces of the machine with a damp cloth.

Note: CaffeNu descaler can be used on any coffee machine, kettle and urn - please refer to the descaling instructions manual that came with your specific equipment.

Yes. The warranty is not dependent on the capsules used in the machine, and should be honoured by the manufacturer. If in doubt, refer to the manufacturer’s warranty information that was supplied with your machine.

On the rare occasion, a batch of coffee may have undergone an issue (such as over-roasting) during the roasting process, consequently creating too much oil in the beans.

A detrimentally high oil content is problematic, as the ground coffee can bind together resulting in blockages in reusable capsules.

If you experience this with your favourite coffee brand, we suggest chatting to your local roaster about this occurrence, or experiment with switching to a medium roast rather than a dark roast.
